From June 12 to June 15, golf enthusiasts gathered at some of the Sunshine Coast’s best golf courses, enjoying warm hospitality and a competetive field, the tournament was a memorable experience for all involved.
Fantastic Start at Maroochy River Golf Club
The Spring Classic commenced at the scenic Maroochy River Golf Club on Monday, June 12. The course was in excellent condition, contributing to some remarkable performances. Margaret French emerged as the leading lady with an impressive score of 42 points. In the Men’s Division, Craig Crump and Michael Hayes displayed their skills, both scoring 38 points, with Crump securing victory in Division 1 and Hayes in Division 2. The players left Maroochy River Golf Club with a positive outlook, eagerly anticipating the upcoming days of exceptional golf.
Day 2 Thrills at Peregian Golf
On the second day of the tournament, the participants gathered at Peregian Golf, greeted by warm weather and clear blue skies. The golfing action was equally fantastic, with players showcasing their talent. Raelene Hocking claimed victory in the Ladies’ Division with an impressive 39 points. In the Men’s Division, Craig Mann secured a win in Division 1 with 41 points, while Andrew Pike emerged triumphant in Division 2 with 35 points. The staff at Peregian Golf ensured outstanding hospitality, enhancing the overall experience for all involved.
A Relaxing Interlude
The middle day of the tournament provided a well-deserved break for the participants. Many took the opportunity to explore the scenic Sunshine Coast, reveling in the beautiful weather. Beachside shops and cafes proved popular destinations, while others enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the Eumundi Markets. This leisurely interlude allowed everyone to recharge and prepare for the upcoming rounds.
Luxurious Golfing at Noosa Springs
The third round, also known as “moving day,” took place at the luxurious Noosa Spring golf and spa resort. The winter weather on the Sunshine Coast remained delightful, with clear blue skies and a comfortable temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. Participants continued to excel, achieving impressive scores and competing fiercely. Lee Anne Grayling led the Ladies’ Division with 38 points, while Gary Neal claimed victory in Men’s Division 1 with 37 points, and Andrew Mills emerged triumphant in Men’s Division 2 with 42 points. The players relished a sit-down 2-course lunch, sharing stories and celebrating their achievements.
Grand Finale at Twin Waters Golf Club
The tournament reached its climax at the stunning Twin Waters Golf Club. Once again, participants enjoyed the typical winter weather of the Sunshine Coast, further cementing their affection for the region. The golfing action remained highly competitive, with the top eight players in each division vying for victory. As the final day concluded, Kim Alexander triumphed in the Ladies’ Division with 38 points, while Ron Willis and Jim Lawerance secured wins in Men’s Division 1 (34 points) and Men’s Division 2 (37 points), respectively. The overall winners of the 2023 Sunshine Coast Winter Golf Classic were Jane Hayes in the Ladies’ category, Craig Mann in Men’s Division 1, and Andrew Mills in Men’s Division 2.
