Tournament Wrap Up & Overall Winners
The opening day saw some very trying conditions at Maroochy River Golf Club with consistent rain and cool breezes blowing. It was a very stern test of golf. The leaders scores were not as they would have expected but given the conditions all players put in huge efforts to just survive and finish the round.
Leaders Day 1
The second day was held at Peregian Golf Course and the weather made a “Sunshine Coast ” return to the clear skies and warmer weather. The course was in excellent condition considering the rain which had fallen the previous day. ( and months actually )The scores saw a climb as well and with some much happier faces in the clubhouse after the round, all players were beginning to enjoy the event a little more.
Day 2 Winners
Leaders after 2 rounds
Day 3 Winners
Leaders after 3 rounds
The final round played at the prestigious Noosa Springs Resort Golf Club, saw the excitement of the seeded players (top 8 in each division) drawn to play with each other. This certainly created some pressure for the leaders and allowed the players in the chase to see the results pan out up close and in the heat of battle. The weather again was typical Sunshine Coast, beautiful temperatures in the mid 20’s and clear skies.
Day 4 Winners
The Final results were very close in the ladies competition. Veronique Pin handled the final round well to win the overall event on a countback with 118 pts. Her last day score enabled her to chase down the leader and win the ladies overall title.
The final results in the mens competitions were a little more clear cut with the very consistent Grant Petherbridge winning the division 1 competition. Division 2 was quite an amazing story with William Bruce winning the division everyday…..Yes everyday. He was very consistent playing to his handicap on most days.
